FROM TODAY ONWARDS MATHEMATICS WILL NOT BE A COMPULSORY SUBJECT FOR NEB (GRADE 11&12)

The government of Nepal, ministry of education, science and technology, curriculum development center, sanothimi, bhaktapur has published the new curriculum of secondary class 11 and 12. The government believe that it will minimize educational pressure on the students, as majority of students were not being able to pass the subject like mathematics and science. Executive director of curriculum development centre, Mr. Krishna prasad kapri stresses that education is a key requirement of the nation and understanding the existing global scenario.

As the first step of this new curriculum, the government has removed mathematics as compulsory subject in grade 11 and 12 even in science stream. Many years passed; math is incredibly important in our lives. Math is being part of our lives, wherever we go or whatever we do we, we are using math daily without even realizing it. It just come naturally. It quickens our mind and help us in general. As math is a creative and logical subject that makes our reminding power strong, i dislike to the decision of government to remove math from major subjects of NEB grade 11 and 12 and put it on optional. This decision of government harm in the goal of students indirectly. Main goals of students are to secure their future and want to became a successful person. Math should be compulsory. As math is language of physics, if we want to became technically good then it is most important to know about the basic things of physics and which is impossible without math. Math is a basic foundation to the technical courses like engineering, biotechnology etc.

However, this ammendment of new curriculum in which math’s been removed as compulsory subject has drawn criticism nationwide. Many students and teacher are protesting in many cities. They are averse to the decision made by government amd are demanding to include math as a major subject. Of course not everybody want to became a mathematician or engineer but this subject can provide bright future for our child.

As per my belief, being a student, i do believe that mathematics should be made compulsory. We are using math in such a creative way that we can identify and state the problem clearly. Not only by student, math is used in every sector. It develops the ability of thinking. As mathematics is not a matter of remembering formulae to do long multiplication, solve quadratic equation, and find area of traingles. Those may be among its raw materials, but math is about identifying patterns, recognizing structures, investigating the l9gical concequences of hypotheses. These skill are necessary before anything else when making a decision, passing a judgement, using a computer or reading the news.
